Evaulation

This task consisted of making a short scene that had to include a shot reverse shot, match-on-action, and the 180 degree rule along with a few lines of dialogue. There are many advantages and disadvantages of this task, in which will be discussed throughout this evaluation of the task

An advantage of this task would be that we got experience with filming, using blogger and using the time we had in order to perform this task correctly. This is good because this meant that we were more prepared for the main task later on in the course and we could get used to using blogger before going straight onto the main task. I feel that we benefitted from this.

Also, making and filming a small scene meant that we could gain some audience feedback to see what we did well and what we could improve on for the main task. The feedback we received was very positive, as we used the techniques we needed to use very well and that the scene flowed well with no stoppages. From this, we can use this going forward and use the feedback we got to our advantage.

A weakness that our task had was that it was quite short, consisting of only 9 shots. This meant that we didn't have much to edit. Therefore, we could not practice and learn to edit as much as we wanted to before the main task. However, we still could edit and so learned the basics of how to edit which is what we needed.

The skills I have acquired during the preliminary task are that I can film a scene, use editing software to edit it and then use blogger to post all of the written work of the task on to the computer.

The skills I would like to further develop are filming longer scenes, that consist of 15 or more shots, and then editing that as that will develop my editing skills further, which I will have to do for my main task. Also, I want to continue to use blogger and improve my work on there as well.

My opinion on blogging

My opinion on blogging
Personally, I think that blogging is not very popular at this point in time. However, I feel that this will be a good chance to try new things and have new experiences. This will be good for learning new ways to do work and I hope to get to grips with it soon.

Group

I have decided to work with Connor Ball and Dan Lomax as they are both my friends and we work well with one another. I feel that this is the best option because Connor has media experience and Dan has drama experience.

Technique Research

Match on Action
Match on action is an editing technique for continuity editing in which one shot cuts to another shot portraying the action of the subject in the first shot.
The 180 degree rule
The 180 degree rule is a filming guideline that participants in a scene should have the same left-right relationship to each other, with filming only taking place within the 180 degree angle in which this is maintained in a conversation, for example.
Shot reverse shot
Shot reverse shot is a continuity editing technique used in conversations or simply characters looking at each other or objects.
